The review
A while back, we brought Foolet to visit a bookstore near Keong Saik and we had a lovely time there! Hook on Books is a lovely bookstore dedicated to children's books from all around the world, local crafts and also some DIY crafts! I really enjoyed our time there as they have set up spaces for you to read as well. For parents that need help choosing books, they have sectioned them by age, and also have friendly staff on hand to help you select books.
As tradition dictates, he got to bring home a book and this was the one he chose.
Loosely translated as "The Water Spirit and the Mud Monster", this book is all about the importance of personal and environmental cleanliness.
One day a mud creature emerges from the swampy and dirty waters and sets out to wreck (mostly mischievous) havoc among the forest creatures. But at the same time, a water spirit answers their calls for help and goes on an adventure to rehabilitate the mud monster.
There's an underlying message about raising awareness around pollution and the book also has 2 pages to explain the location of the water spirit's home in Shizuoka prefecture and some of the lovely lakes that have Mt Fuji in its backdrop.
With its superhero and villain themes, bright colours and eye-catchingly bold brushstrokes, this was a sure winner.
