The review
I seem to have a proclivity towards German and Japanese books when it comes to transportation-related themes. Their books have a fantastic high degree of detail which makes for some good conversations.
Continuing our current fascination with trains, this is another excellent book on trains. It's interspersed with mini stories - a holiday trip told from a child's perspective, and a husband and son picking up mummy from the train station.
This focuses on modern day train journeys, albeit from a German (and perhaps European?) perspective. The attention to detail is impressive. I can spend a good many minutes looking at each scene with Foolet, asking him to share his observations with me.
It's told in a chronological order from the train station and departure areas, to the train platform, the journey, and picking up at the parking station. Each scene has small mini questions disguised as small notices / posters, which are good prompts if you run out of ideas. Also liked the glossary at the end, where I learnt a lot of vocabulary too!
Finally - this is in simplified Chinese, which is good news for many of us.
