The review

Another weekend, another book to review! This book on tofu has pushed me to the limits when it comes to reading traditional Chinese characters. It has been many years since I read manga translated into traditional Chinese, so this forced refresh has been challenging.

This book caught my eye while browsing on Taobao. Foolet is a very picky eater but one thing that he's taken to quite well is tofu. I like my books to be richly-detailed and these Japanese books are very well-drawn.

Starting with a little boy's trip to a Tofu shop and being invited to watch the tofu-making process, this book encourages curiosity behind how food is made. It does a really good job in describing the step-by-step process of making small-batch tofu. If you have a little one who is mechanical-minded, this book will be quite fascinating. Expect to spend time examining the machinery, talking about Okara or the tofu pulp that is left behind after the soybeans are filtered out. Together with the suggested sound effects, this will make for good entertainment. Reading is never a quiet affair in our household.

The text is a bit crammed due to their addition of bopomofo but it's lost on me sadly! Nevertheless for those able to read it, it'll be a useful tool.

Finally, if you have a tofu fan, the pictures are good enough to eat, you know what to do!
